Description
The ViPrimePLUS Spring Viremia of Carp Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Spring Viremia of Carp Virus genome in fish samples (e.g. liver, kidney, gills, spleen and brain).
Spring Viremia of Carp Virus (SVCV), a bullet-shaped RNA virus, is responsible for the acute haemorrhagic and contagious viremia in several carp species, and some other cyprinid and ictalurid fish species. The virus has first been identified in Yugoslavia and now, most of the European countries, Russia, the Middle East and even China have been reported of the disease. The virus can be transmitted via the water contaminated with the faeces and urine of the infected carp or via invertebrate vectors. Once the virus enters the host via the gill, the virus spreads rapidly to the liver, kidney, spleen and digestive tract. Diseased fish is usually darker in colour with typical signs of exophthalmia, pale gills, haemorrhages on skin and base of fins, abdominal distension and a protruding anus. Disease usually manifests in water with temperature between 11 and 17oC. Therefore in carp, the disease is often observed during spring period. In European aquaculture, the mortality rate can reach up to 70% in yearling. Vaccine is currently not available, thus effective screening method is essential.
ViPrimePLUS Spring Viremia of Carp Virus RT-qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
