Description
The ViPrimePLUS Neisseria meningitis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of the Neisseria meningitidis genomes in clinical samples (e.g. cerebrospinal fluids, throat swabs and blood).
Neisseria meningitidis is a Gram negative bacterium, which causes severe infection in the meninges of the brain. Fatality rate of this bacterial meningitis reaches 50% if left untreated. There are 12 serovars of N. meningitidis, of which 6 can cause epidemic, i.e. A, B, C, W135, X and Y. Transmission of the bacteria is via respiratory droplet, and the pathogen only infects human, thus without animal reservoir. It is estimated that 10-20% of human population are carriers of the bacteria. The infection may leads to brain damage, hearing loss and impaired learning ability. Introduction of the new meningococcal A vaccine has greatly reduces the incidences of infection in many developed countries.
ViPrimePLUS Neisseria meningitis qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
